Ontario Childcare Access and Relief from Expenses (CARE) Credit
New this year, you might be able to claim the Ontario childcare access and relief from expenses credit (CARE) if you paid for child care expenses. This is a refundable tax credit and is based on your family income and the child care expenses you’re claiming on your return.
You can claim this credit if:
- You were a resident of Ontario on 31 December 2020
- You claimed child care expenses for one or more eligible children on your return
Note: If you were bankrupt in 2020, you can’t claim this credit on your return. However, if you received an absolute discharge from bankruptcy before the end of the year, you can claim the tax credit on the post-bankruptcy return you file for 2020.
H&R Block’s 2020 tax software will automatically claim this tax credit for you based on the information you enter in your return (such as your province of residency, family income, and the child care expenses you claimed
