Warning: UCCB and RC62
You’ll see the following warning message on the ERRORS page in H&R Block’s2020 tax software if you entered universal child care benefit (UCCB) payments in your return and also reported a UCCB amount from your spouse's return:
You entered universal child care benefit (UCCB) payments in your return and also reported a UCCB amount from your spouse's return. These amounts can only be reported by the spouse with the lower net income. Since you have the lower net income, you need to remove the amount for line 11700 on the Schedule 2 (Amounts from your spouse's 2020 return) page and include it in the amount for box 10 on the RC62 page in your return instead. However, if you and your spouse both received UCCB lump-sum payments in 2020, you need to report the UCCB payments received separately (in the RC62 page in your return for your amount and in line 11700 on the Schedule 2 page for your spouse's amount), as well as print your returns and mail them to the CRA instead of filing them online using NETFILE. We apologize for the inconvenience. [warning]
How do I fix this?
To clear this warning, follow these steps:
- Remove the Universal child care benefit (UCCB) payment amount from line 11700 on the Schedule 2 (Your spouse’s return) page from your return.
- Add the above amount to box 10, total benefit paid, on the RC62 page in your return.
If you and your spouse both received UCCB lump-sum payments in 2020, you won’t be able to NETFILE. Instead, follow these steps for each of your returns:
- Enter your UCCB payment in box 10 on the RC62 page of your return.
- Enter your spouse’s UCCB payment on line 11700 on the Schedule 2 page in your return.
- Print both returns and mail them to the CRA.
Note: You can find the RC62 page on the QUICK ENTRY tab under the SMART SEARCH icon by typing RC62 in the search field then clicking the highlighted selection or pressing Enter to continue. You can find the Your spouse's return page on the PREPARE tab under the REQUIRED icon.
